Texas Elite Swim Team offers a unique experience in competitive club swimming built around a genuine love for the sport. We believe strong athletic development begins at an early age through consistent, high-quality time in the water. Our year-round program focuses on developing proper technique, confidence, discipline, and the muscle memory essential for fast swimming.
At Texas Elite, we strive to create an environment where swimmers learn to enjoy the process of improvement, build lasting friendships, and develop skills that extend far beyond the pool. Jesse Newsom
Owner and Coach
Born in 1986, Coach Jesse spent most of early life on a sail boat. His mom taught him how to swim by throwing him off the diving board yelling, “figure it out” while he was in the air around the age of 3. He started doing summer league with the Aqua Tigers at the age of 8. He swam at Katy High School under arguably the greatest coach, Dana Abbott. He qualified for state his Junior year on relays and Senior year in the 100 fly. His name is still on the school record board under the 200 Free Relay. While playing video games his senior year of high school his dad asked him, “What are you going to do with your life?” This sparked him to see if he could swim in college, as he fairly enjoyed it and it was an option. During this time he ended up swimming at Katy Aquatics, as it was the only option in the area at the time. He ended up at a Division II school, Delta State University, in Cleveland, Mississippi, where the adopted mascot is the Fighting Okra. He made Nationals on relays and had bonus times to swim the 50, 100, 200 Free. During his time at college he took a couple philosophy classes and Aristotle’s words “it’s a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable” stuck with him. Reluctantly, Coach Jesse started his coaching career at the age 14 for the Aqua Tigers. His mom was the President and it was an unpaid position. From there he worked with various summer league teams around Katy and did private lessons. He worked at Katy Aquatics from 2012-2017, before starting Texas Elite Swim Team with Ryan and Adam. He has worked with beginners all the way to Olympic Trial qualifiers. When not coaching, Coach Jesse enjoys pushing his body to the limits by training for triathlons. His best 140.6 time is 9:47 at Ironman Texas, and his best 70.3 time is 4:43 at Galveston. Beyond suffering, he enjoys reading manga and watching anime, listening to jam bands, camping, and being surrounded by his wife and 2 daughters.
